VPN for MacOS – Access University Network from the outside
At PJATK we have launched VPN service (Virtual Private Network) available for students and employees. VPN allows people to reach university network from anywhere in the world. Connecting via VPN works like you were actually at University.
MacOS vpn configuration
1.Press Apple logo in the left top corner of your screen.
2.Choose “System Preferences”.
3.Find and choose “Network”.
4.In the left bottom corner select “+”.
5.From interface menu select “VPN”.
6.Type of VPN: L2TP over IPSec.
7.Service Name: PJATK (any other name would not be compatible with our plugin).
9.Set server address to: vpn.pjwstk.edu.pl
10.Use your University account sXXXXX or pdXXXX where XXXXX is your student number.
11.In the authentication settings:
Password is your University account password
Shared Secret set to : PJATKvpn4Mac
13.In advanced settings uncheck box with “Send all trafic over VPN connection”. Press OK and Apply.
Next step is to add route to your route table. Start your teminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and type those commands :
sudo touch /etc/ppp/ip-up
sudo chmod 755 /etc/ppp/ip-up
Open this file with vim or nano:
sudo nano /etc/ppp/ip-up
and paste below script:
counter=`/usr/sbin/scutil --nc list | grep "PJATK" | grep "(Connected)" | wc -w`
if [ $counter -gt 0 ] ; then
/sbin/route add -net 10.0.0.0/8 -interface $1
/sbin/route add -net 172.16.0.0/12 -interface $1
It is very important that your connection name is set to PJATK.
Save the file (in nano press ctrl+X, and next Y followed by enter applying name of the file).
Start Finder and from go to menu choose “connect to server ” or just simply use Command + k.
In the server address type one of below paths and press connect. Next you need to authenticate yourself with your University account.
CHANGE “LOGIN” TO YOUR USERNAME
